Iron Maiden’s Bruce Dickinson has quite the temper. Unsurprisingly, this has lead to him feuding with a number of notable figures in the heavy metal genre
MERCHANDISE Iron Maiden frontman Bruce Dickinson regretted not punching Guns N’ Roses vocalist Axl Rose during and long after a show back in 1988 Iron Maiden vocalist Bruce Dickinson isn’t known for being a violent man. In fact, he’s one of the coolest, most down-to-earth and polite people you’d ever hope to meet. However, this didn’t stop “the air raid siren” from wishing he had punched out Axl Rose by smashing him straight in the mouth. Guns N’ Roses opened for Iron Maiden at the Coliseum in Quebec City, Canada on May 16, 1988. According to the Journal De Montreal interview, Bruce Dickinson was asked: Axl Rose treated the audience poorly that night. Why? “Because the crowd was speaking to Axl in French, which tends to happen in French Canada.” Axl Rose jumps into the crowd and attacks fan during Rocket Queen (Guns n’ Roses Smackdown Riot) Axl Rose jumps into the crowd and attacks fan during Rocket Queen Bruce Dickinson didn’t take kindly to the apparent disrespect by Axl Rose to Iron Maiden’s audience, tempting the legendary vocalist to give Axl a proper beat-down. “I should have come onstage and given him a punch, how could he dare speak to my audience in that way? I always regretted not having done so.” – Bruce Dickinson Axl Rose Disrespecting Iron Maiden Axl Rose Disrespecting Iron Maiden Bruce Dickinson also spoke of the moment he learned his battle against tongue and throat cancer had been successful. “A huge relief, I was unable to speak. I did not know what to do. Should I scream my joy? It was the biggest news I had ever received in my life … Right now, I’m at the stage of healing, so I have not sung except sometimes at home. Fortunately, the power is still there. Notes too.” Meanwhile, Iron maiden have announced the release of a double live album. Nights Of The Dead, Legacy Of The Beast: Live In Mexico City was recorded across three sold-out shows in September of 2019, and will come out on November 20 via Parlophone Records. Axl has the edge and the raw stage presence.
 Replies 91 Created 6 yr Last Reply 6 yr Top Posters In This Topic 6 4 6 5 Share Axl is (easily) the bigger "star" if you will. I'd go 1A and 1B I guess. Axl wins (but this is a Guns board and I love Axl).
 Share I thought it was going to be tough, but the throat clearing section really gave the win to Axl Rose.
 Share I have never liked Maiden, so I'll go with Axl on this one.
 Share Whenever I have to make a choice, I always compare the artists at their prime. For me, Axl wins this because of uniqueness in voice and stage presence. I only wish Axl could have aged as well as Bruce. Axl at 38 was already a total mess vocally and physically. The man aged quickly.
 Share These comparisons are fun, but everyone has their own taste, Bruce for example, is not even the best vocalist of Maiden for me There mite be a lot of better vocalists than Axl, which I dont know , but he's easily the best frontman ever for me cuz he's GOD. Then comes a league of legends as Mercury, Plant, Patton, Daltrey and Jagger.
 Share Axl in his prime destroyes everyone i mean guy had biggest vocal range in all of music, now we will see how it will sound on this tour. No matter what Axl is always for me and Freddie is second.
 Share 3 minutes ago, MYWIFEMYLIFE said: These comparisons are fun, but everyone has their own taste, Bruce for example, is not even the best vocalist of Maiden for me There mite be a lot of better vocalists than Axl, which I dont know , but he's easily the best frontman ever for me cuz he's GOD. You didn't really throw Mike Patton in with that list did you?
 Share 1 minute ago, tsinindy said: You didn't really throw Mike Patton in with that list did you? actually he's for me
 Share 3 minutes ago, MYWIFEMYLIFE said: actually he's for me Well....alrighty then
 Share Bruce Dickinson is the man. It's not even close for me. I still love Axl, and they really are quite different. But for the sake of the thread, Bruce crushes it. When you go to an Iron Maiden show, you don't have 65 threads the night of the tour opener about "Mickey Mouse", "helium voice", oxygen tanks, etc., with regards to Bruce's vocals. You know he's going to deliver.
 Share Just now, Zeppelin said: Bruce Dickinson is the man. It's not even close for me. Pure fucking talent right there. Early Robert Plant and Freddie Mercury are the only others that are in that league.
 Share Without any doubt - Bruce is the man!
 Share Oh I agree that Axl in his prime was an absolute beast. A freak of nature, really. But I guess I look at it differently, because I don't want to always have to reference performances from the 80's or early 90's. Axl's had some great vocals since then, but we all know he's been hit and miss. For me, consistency trumps the rest. But at the same time, rock and roll is a young man's game. Part of the mystique around Zeppelin is that they were forced to quit before we got to see them get really old (like we are seeing with AC/DC in recent years). GN'R sort of had that same mystique due to Axl going into hiding for so long in the mid-90's to early 2000's. Unfortunately he came back as "Guns N' Roses" with a band that wasn't really GN'R and he was no longer the incredible Axl of 1985-1993.
 Share Are we going for vocal range ? Are we going for stage presence ? Are we going for interaction with the crowd ? Are we going for number of gigs played ? Are we going for album sales ? Both of them are great front men in their respective bands let's NOT compare them.
 Share You guys should watch some Iron Maiden live videos.
 Share It is a ridiculous question as one sings metal and the other sings hard rock/rock n' roll: Bruce would be superior if we were discussing metal, particularly the brand of progressive operatic metal Maiden specialise in, whereas Axl would be better singing blues-based sleaze rock and power ballads.
 Share Bruce is fantastic! Just saw them about a week ago and he still gets the crowd going! Axl was the best in his prime 87-93 but then he fell off of the deep end. Now he is making a big comeback this year which is awesome! Axl wrote more songs so I guess he wins that category. But Bruce can fly a big ol' jet airliner! It's a tie!
 Share I love metal, and a hand full of maiden tunes, but i find it difficult listening to a full maiden album and a big part of that is Bruce's voice. The operatic style just doesnt do it for me at all. Great guy and front man just dont care for his band very much!
 Share maiden's songs are way too easy to sing. Dont even understand why, great frontman, I like bruce, sure they have couple of great songs( "couple" lol), incredible history etc etc etc. But no, I just dont get it. Have a HUGE respect though, im glad they are still around. So Axl for sure. But If this was axl vs Layne Staley....
 Share 23 minutes ago, DieselDaisy said: Huh?
